It commenced education and training in the fields of Painting and Graphic Design in 2004, Sculpture in 2005, and Performing Arts in 2013 in Bodrum.
The Ceramics Department started admitting undergraduate students in the 2018-2019 academic year and graduated its first undergraduate students in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the academic year 2017-2018, the department began admitting graduate students in the field of Ceramic Art and Design under the Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Institute of Social Sciences, and graduated its first student in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Our department, based on the vision and mission of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and focusing on the principles and international scientific and academic criteria, aims to train artist and designer candidates who possess theoretical and practical knowledge at an expert level in the field of art and design, using, interpreting, and creating new knowledge in connection with other disciplines, capable of flexible thinking between disciplines, developing their capacities, contributing to their field, solving encountered problems, and being able to articulate their propositions orally and in writing.
In line with these objectives, our department aims to train qualified artists and designers who can comprehend the cultural and artistic structure of our country and region, reach universal values, demonstrate their acquired abilities in the field of art through written and applied works, academic studies, and industrial applications, and contribute to the advancement of contemporary art and science.
In the educational process of our department, research is conducted on the cultural richness and dynamics of ceramic art in the region, aiming to advance and develop contemporary ceramic art and design at the national and international levels, and to explore and develop local raw material opportunities. Furthermore, through the curriculum, efforts are made to impart to our students the ability to carry the region's cultural heritage to the future in a contemporary approach. Our graduates can be employed as freelance artists/designers in ceramic workshops, as designers in the ceramic industry, or in relevant fields of cultural and artistic institutions.
Students who wish to pursue further education by transitioning to postgraduate studies can contribute to the industrial-designer collaboration, which is particularly felt as a deficiency in our country, through the design education they receive, or they can respond to the needs of the community by opening private workshops and producing ceramics. Thus, in the region, which is open to national and international interaction due to its geopolitical position, the increasing number of ceramic workshops from the 1970s to the present is gradually gaining a qualified structure in terms of production capacity.
